Junior Achievement—ALPFA Partnership

Junior Achievement USA® Selects ALPFA® - LARGEST Latino MEMBERSHIP ORGANIZATION - To Hold A Seat On its national Board of Directors

ALPFA has joined forces with Junior Achievement USA (JA), the world's largest organization that inspires and prepares young people to succeed in a global economy. This historic partnership will diversify JA's leadership and volunteers while offering ALPFA leaders broader opportunity to serve their local communities.

ALPFA and JA have partnered to work together on the shared goal of preparing America’s youth to be work-ready and providing them with a valuable means to explore career opportunities, entrepreneurship, and become financially literate through experiential, hands-on programs.

In JA’s nearly 100-year history, it has never partnered with such a large nonprofit membership organization, appointing its leader to their national board. The CEO of ALPFA, Charles P. "Charlie" Garcia, will be the first. This partnership is crucial given the growing Latino population. Recent studies predict that 40 percent of employment growth over the next five years will be Latinos, and currently about 23 percent of JA’s students are Latino.

Each year, more than 220,000 business professionals volunteer to teach JA programs, and this partnership will help JA bring ALPFA’s powerful, Latino role models into the lives of young people while increasing the number of students that can be taught JA’s world-class programs.

A persistent issue in the Latino community is that nearly 90% of Fortune 1000 boards lack a Latino director.  JA has requested that ALPFA help provide senior corporate Latino representation on their 115 national chapter boards.  ALPFA hopes that developing working relationships and personal friendships with CEOs and C-Suite corporate leaders across the country will naturally lead to invitations to corporate board service for many of our active leaders.

We encourage student and professional members living near the 13 pilot JA Areas to register below to learn more about becoming a JA volunteer!
