Mr. John Ramirez is a retired US Army Command Sergeant Major with over 27 years of military service. During his distinguished 27-year military career, Command Sergeant Major (Retired) Ramirez held numerous leadership positions. He also served as a committee member of the US Army’s Special Executive Review Board for the Center for Strategic Leadership, and in 2004, selected as one of the “Top Hispanic Leaders” in the Army. He is a graduate from the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy and recipient of the Sergeant Major of the Army William Bainbridge Ethics Award.
Mr. Ramirez has been a member of the University of Phoenix for over 14 years. He has held numerous positions that include Senior Operations Manager, Director of Operations, Associate Campus Director, and Vice President of External Military Relations. He is currently the Dean of Operations for the College of Doctoral Studies.
Mr. Ramirez earned his Master of Business Administration from Arizona State University and a Master of Science and Administration of Justice and Security with a concentration in Global and Homeland Security from University of Phoenix. He is a life-long learner and has a passion for education.
Mr. Ramirez is the recipient of the Association of Latino Professionals For America’s (ALPFA) national 2017 Veteran of the Year Award and was the Chairman of the Corporate Advisory Board for the Phoenix Chapter of ALPFA in 2016 and 2017. Mr. Ramirez is also active with numerous groups including Council of Colleges and Military Educators, National Association of Institutions for Military Education Services, American Society for Industrial Security, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Arizona Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and American Association of Hispanics in Higher Education.
Mr. Ramirez has been married to his wife Sonya for 42 years. Together they have 5 children and 9 grandchildren.
