BIG DATA

Learn about big data from both Accenture, RSM and Microsoft as they explain big data's applications in business using examples from apps we use every day.

The evolution of the data science profession from undirected exploration of huge data sets to focused creation of insights and predictions.

The use of data science for social impact and civic technology, including a number of examples from Chicago. 

A brief overview of tools available from Microsoft which make Big Data problem less challenging for those without and academic background in data science.

SPEAKERS 

Kino Aguilar. Microsoft. Data Scientist

 Currently working on the Display Advertisement team, which is tasked with monetizing display ads (e.g. ads you see in MSN.com, Xbox, and Outlook.com). Previously he worked as a Program Manager at Microsoft in the Visual Studio team, and completed a Ph.D. in Communication Studies at Northwestern University.

 

Soren Spicknall. Microsoft. Civic Tech Fellow
Chicago-based civic technologist, focused on leveraging emerging computing tools like data science, blockchain, and virtual/augmented/mixed reality for the benefit of the public. As a Microsoft Civic Tech Fellow, he explores the possibilities and the pitfalls of new technologies by conducting pilot programs with nonprofits, governments, and community activists. In addition, Spicknall hosts Chicago City Data Users Group, Blockchain for Social Good Chicago, and South Side Code & Coffee, and co-hosts Chi Hack Night. His work seeks to create equitable technological solutions to some of today's most pressing social and civic challenges.

 

Sean X. Zhang. Accenture. Analytics Senior Manager

Analytics Senior Manager based in Chicago with 19+ years of experience implementing large scale global ERP/SAP systems and custom digital solutions in various industries. He has extensive knowledge in the Technology domain including Data Analytics, Tech Arch, Custom Development, Enterprise Portals, as well as significant experience across functional areas of Finance & Procurement. Sean is a seasoned technologist with deep understanding of Analytics, Cloud, AI & IoT, he is also a certified MTA-STA & Digital Delivery Lead.


Chris Murphy. RSM. Director – Technology Management Consulting

Chris has more than 18 years of business experience in the BI, Big Data and Analytics space, which includes business development, account management and growth, major systems architecture, management, development and implementation. He is a self-motivated business professional with a history of leadership, strategic planning, portfolio growth and retention, and delivery effectiveness. He is a strong Solutions Architect with a balance of functional and technical understanding to guide effective and useful solutions.
