Intiman Theatre takes on race, privilege, and gardening with NATIVE GARDENS by Karen Zacarías, one of the most produced Latina playwrights in the nation. NATIVE GARDENS, A hilarious hot-button comedy. You can’t choose your neighbors. In this brilliant new comedy, cultures and gardens clash, turning well-intentioned neighbors into feuding enemies. Pablo, a rising attorney, and doctoral candidate Tania, his very pregnant wife, have just purchased a home next to Frank and Virginia, a well-established D.C. couple with a prize-worthy English garden. But an impending barbecue for Pablo’s colleagues and a delicate disagreement over a long-standing fence line soon spirals into an all-out border dispute, exposing both couples’ notions of race, taste, class and privilege.

El Dia de Los Muertos Networking Event

Join ALPFA and BHEN (Boeing Hispanic Employees Network) to celebrate El Dia de Los Muertos at the Seattle Art Museum on October 28th, from 7:00pm-9:00pm. The event is free, and is open to the public.

The event will feature a unique tapete (sand painting) installation inspired by Oaxaca’s beautiful traditions. Take in a dance performance, get involved with art activities, listen to music, and more!

The night will continue with salsa dancing at Club Sur from 9:00pm-11:00pm.

Women of ALPFA Keynote

We are excited to announce Annona Loughnane as the Keynote speaker for this year’s Women of ALPFA event.

Annona is Chief of Staff for the CFO of Microsoft. Annona has 15+ years of experience in Finance and Management, holds a BA in European Business Studies from University of Ulster in Northern Ireland, and speaks Spanish and French.

In her current role Annona supports the CFO in developing and executing strategy for Microsoft’s WW Finance Team, oversees all communications from the CFO, manages key internal and external CFO engagements and leads key initiatives for the CFO.

Annona is a passionate people leader and is deeply focused on building diverse high performing teams. She gets her energy from coaching and developing others and seeing them advance in their careers. Annona is a strong advocate for diversity in the workplace and in 2012 she was honored by Nevada Women’s Fund as Woman of Achievement for her professional, personal and community achievements.

Wilson Garone

Wilson Garone joined Microsoft Brazil in FY96 as subsidiary Controller, where he worked for 4 years partnering with the local GM and experiencing the high growth of one of the largest Emerging Markets in MS. Doing business in MS was different at that time, the job of a high growth subsidiary Controller was intense on business partnership and enabling new growth opportunities, and lighter in Rhythm of Finance processes. In FY00, Wilson moved to Ft Lauderdale to be the Regional Controller for Latin America, leading a group of 60 talented Finance employees and providing Finance support to the Latam Regional VP. In the Regional role, Wilson focused his time building a solid Finance team, based on a Blue Print proposal, creating Finance communities in the Region, implementing the Rhythm of Finance process, driving productivity projects (i.e. consolidation of subsidiaries) and business growth projects (i.e. Financing programs for Small Business). After 4 years in the Regional Office, Wilson moved to Redmond, where he was the WW SMSG GM of Finance for 8 years, supporting the COO organization (Kevin Turner) and deploying/managing Finance processes for SMSG (i.e. Growth Framework, Controls & Compliance, Core Finance, Target Setting). In summer 2013, Wilson was appointed CFO for SMSG, supporting Kevin Turner and leading the most talented Finance Organization in the world. Before MS, Wilson spent 9 years in different finance roles in Kodak. Wilson is graduated in Business Administration at Fundaçao Getulio Vargas, a leading business school in Latin America, with Finance extension courses at Insead and Harvard.

Greg Fenich to be guest speaker

Mr. Greg Fenich will be presenting on May 21st at a professional development session hosted by ALPFA Seattle and Microsoft. Mr. Fenich leads the Business Analytics & Reporting team for Microsoft’s WW Sales, Marketing, and Service Group (SMSG) finance organization.

Mr. Fenich joined Microsoft in 2002 as part of the Asia Pacific and Japan regional finance team based in Tokyo Japan and spent the following 11 years working in various Asia-based SMSG finance field roles, including the Asia region’s Enterprise & Partner Group Controller and the region’s Business Controller, both based out of Singapore. In May 2005, he returned to Tokyo as the Japan Financial Controller before moving to Microsoft Korea in May 2007 as Finance Director. He returned to Japan in June 2010 to assume the Japan CFO position until June 2013, when he returned to the US for his current position. Prior to Microsoft, Mr. Fenich worked 7 years for Motorola (4 years in the US Internal Audit team; the remainder in their Japan subsidiary) and 6 years as a CPA for Ernst & Young.

Mr. Fenich received his Master’s in Business Administration from Thunderbird, School of Global Management, and his Bachelor of Arts in Business (Accounting; Management) from Washington State University.

Angeles Martinez Hickmon, The Boeing Company

Defense Space & Security Puget Sound Finance Employee Development and Engagement Programs Lead

Angeles Martinez Hickmon currently leads the Boeing Defense Space & Security Puget Sound Finance Employee Development and Engagement programs. She has worked at Boeing for thirteen years, mostly in the BDS defense programs for the Procurement Financial Analysis Organization. She moved to the Puget Sound in June of 2011 to support the United States Air Force Tanker program in the role of Lead Material Estimating. During her tenure in Procurement Finance, she has held many different positions ranging from business operations analyst to procurement financial cost lead. She also has supported many cross functional teams throughout Space and Intelligent Systems in El Segundo and across Boeing sites in the US. Angeles has also worked across industries. Since graduating from college, she has held roles in the Internal Revenue Service’s Tax Collection unit, at TRW Space Systems, and at KMPG’s consulting business. Angeles has a BBA in International Business from Loyola Marymount and an MS in Systems and Information Technology from Claremont Graduate University. Giving back is one of her favorite activities. While in Los Angeles, she ran the youth programs in her parish. She also enjoys mentoring college students and Boeing new hires. As time permits, she enjoys taking interior design classes, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends.

Yegor Nadvornyy, Microsoft

Finance Rotational Analyst

Finance Rotational Analyst Yegor Nadvornyy is originally from Ukraine and moved to the US almost 8 years ago. He received his BBA with a concentration in Finance from Florida International University. During his college years, he was President of ALPFA FIU, started ALPFA Toastmasters and ALPFA Tech Group, and initiated the Nationwide Stock Trading Competition. Currently, Yegor works at Microsoft as Finance Rotational Analyst. He has a great passion for tech entrepreneurship. In his free time, Yegor consults start-up businesses on competitive strategy, marketing and financing.

Luis Miguel Perez, born in Bogota, Colombia, double majored in Computer Science and Industrial Engineering at Andes University in Colombia, graduating with honors. His professional experience is diverse. He has taught high school economic science, has worked as software developer in the corporate and the government sectors, and has led the operations side of an automotive company. Last year, Luis Miguel obtained a master’s degree in Industrial Engineering from Georgia Tech and was recruited by Amazon to work in the transportation analytics area.

Elyot Whitney graduated from Washington State University with three majors: a BA in Business Administration (Finance), BA in Communication (Public Relations), and a BS in Economic Sciences (Financial Markets). While attending school, he served on the executive board of his fraternity, participated in the student senate, was on the Marketing team for the university recreation center, and interned with The Boeing Company in Boeing Commercial Airplane’s Supplier Management division. Currently, he is part of the Business Skills Rotation Program at Boeing and is in his first position as an Integrated Scheduler on the Airborne Surveillance Command & Control program. Outside of work Elyot is studying for his private pilot’s license as well as preparing to begin his Masters of Business Administration this upcoming fall at Seattle University. He enjoys staying active, socializing with friends and following global business and finance news.

Alejandra Alanis, born in Toppenish, Washington majored in Finance and International Business at the University of Washington. She was Deloitte Seattle’s first Rotational Intern in 2011, and is now a first year consultant within Deloitte’s Enterprise Risk Service practice. Prior to launching her career, Alejandra traveled to Costa Rica to obtain a certificate to teach English as a foreign language. She has been an active member of ALPFA for over 4 years, and is now looking forward to her new role as Events Project Manager for ALPFA’s Programs Committee.

About the Student Convention Aid Fund

The Student Convention Aid Fund is a scholarship program that sponsors students to attend the annual ALPFA Convention, which is located in Orlando this year. In 2013, we raised over $6K and sponsored students to attend, paying for their flight, registration and 90% of their hotel costs.

The annual convention is an opportunity for students and professionals from all over the country to come together network, attend development workshops and seek new career opportunities. The students we have sponsored in the past have come back to Seattle inspired and invigorated after attending an event with over 3K professionals who come from similar backgrounds. Particularly, being able to access senior Latino executives who share their stories of how they’ve come up in corporate America and also civic leaders.

In years past we’ve had keynotes including the CEO of the Girls Scouts of America (did you know she’s Latina?) and the 42nd Treasurer of the US (Anna Escobedo Cabral), the highest ranking Latino under the George W Bush administration.

We would truly appreciate your support to raise funds and allow us to reach our goal of sending 10 students this year! Space is limited to 120 people, so buy your tickets ahead to guarantee you a spot! Also, the cover of $15 goes up to $20 if you purchase at the door!

Detailed Board Descriptions:

Chapter President:

The President serves as the Chairman of the Chapter Board and presides at all meetings of the ALPFA Seattle Chapter Board of Directors and Executive Committee. The Chapter President oversees ALPFA Seattle’s fiscal, operations, fundraising, marketing, technology and program strategies and sets the tone and vision for the chapter.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the ALPFA Seattle Board to define and implement a strategic operating plan, ensuring priorities are aligned with ALPFA’s mission.
  • Works with the VP of Corporate Affairs in managing relationships with corporate partners and corporate development opportunities.
  • Responsible for allocating the chapter’s financial resources, monitoring budgets and ensuring sound financial controls are in place
  • Supervise the activities of the chapter and engage ALPFA National as needed
  • Attend all National and Regional Conference calls (or have a representative attend.)

Executive Vice President:

The Executive Vice President performs all executive and other duties as delegated to him/her by the President, Chapter Board of Directors or Executive Committee, including the general supervision of the activities of assigned committees.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, guide and follow up on Chapter matters.
  • In the absence of the President , preside at meetings ensuring that the meeting.
  • Ensure direct reports carry out their duties.
  • Assist direct reports to set goals for the applicable year with the help of all board members.
  • Attend all National and Regional Conference calls (as a backup to the Chapter President).

Secretary:

The Secretary is responsible for maintaining the minutes of the meetings of the Chapter Board of Directors and the Executive Committee.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the accurate documentation and upkeep of the Chapter’s bylaws and other governance documents (i.e. Compliance documents.
  • Ensure chapter documents are kept current, including changes made through an amendment process, and that these documents are available for review at key meetings, if needed (i.e. board roster/contact list).
  • Produce the quarterly report to ALPFA National. This report includes Minutes, Event Analysis, Board Roster, and Org Chart. The report should be prepared on the first week of January, April, July, and September.

VP of Corporate Affairs:

The VP of Corporate Affairs is responsible for managing relationships with ALPFA Seattle corporate partners and facilitating engagement with keyboard members and other stakeholders. The VP manages the corporate affairs committees, consisting of account managers. The VP and committee work closely with other board members and volunteers within programs, membership, marketing, and student affairs to quality customer care and ROI to chapter corporate partners.

Responsibilities:

  • Reports to Chapter President
  • Attends Monthly BOD meetings & Retreats
  • Required to attend all professional events & Student Summit
  • Responsible for scheduling and leading monthly committee meetings
  • Develops and manages relationship with current and target partner initiatives
  • Works closely with the Programs committee to deliver quality programming to members and corporate partners
  • Works with ALPFA National to understand provide updates on local relationships and help establish corporate development opportunities.
  • Communicate with key partner contacts in order to assess effectiveness of annual programming

VP of Programs:

The VP of Programs is responsible for the overall planning and execution of professional development, CPE workshops, and marquee events. The VP of programs collaborate closely with the other chapter committees to ensure we offer members and corporate partners value-added events and programs.

Responsibilities:

  • Reports to Chapter President
  • Attends Monthly BOD meetings & Retreats
  • Required to attend all professional events & Student Summit
  • Responsible for scheduling and leading monthly committee conference call
  • Design and deliver events quality, relevant programming for ALPFA Seattle members and corporate partners.
  • Project manager for marquee events, ensuring they are delivered within budget

VP of Marketing & Public Relations:

The VP of Marketing and PR is responsible for the creative marketing strategies that will build the ALPFA brand among our members, sponsors and community.

Responsibilities:

  • Reports to Chapter President
  • Attends Monthly BOD meetings & Retreats
  • Required to attend all professional events & Student Summit
  • Responsible for scheduling and leading monthly committee conference call
  • Maintain relationship with ALPFA National to ensure marketing strategies and branding are aligned
  • Responsible for creating, implementing and measuring the success of the marketing and public relations plan that will extend the ALPFA brand in the Seattle market

VP of Technology

The Technology Committee is responsible for facilitating the Chapter’s business needs with technology solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop strategies to facilitate BOD business needs.
  • Implement technology standards and develop change management processes.
  • Determine self-service opportunities and educate peers.

Director of Technology

Responsibilities:

  • Reports to VP of Technology
  • Supports VP of Technology in all VP duties, in case VP is not present
  • Responsible for monthly committee meeting minutes, and provides them to the Secretary

Director of Student Affairs:

The Student Affairs Committee is responsible for the development and nurturing of student relationships, initiatives, and programs. The Director of Student Affairs will support the VP of Student affairs in fulfilling these responsibilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Reports to VP of Student Affairs
  • Required to attend local BOD Leadership Retreat
  • Coordinates volunteers for professional chapter events
  • Responsible for monthly committee meeting minute and provides these to Secretary

Director of Membership:

The Membership Committee functions in a team environment creating and implementing strategies to increase and retain talented and qualified members. The Director of Membership will support the VP of Membership in fulfilling these responsibilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Reports to VP of Membership
  • Required to attend local BOD Leadership Retreat
  • Supports VP of Membership in all duties listed above in case where the VP of Membership is not present
  • Responsible for monthly committee meeting minutes and provides these to Secretary
  • Participates in ALPFA National membership strategy building when VP unable to

Facilitator’s Bio:

Guisselle Nunez was born in Leon, Nicaragua. Her family immigrated to California in 1982 and she grew up in San Jose, CA. She has a B.A. from Santa Clara University (Santa Clara, CA) in History and Italian; M.S. from Golden Gate University (San Francisco, CA) in Integrated Marketing Communications. Guisselle is co-owner of Mundi Travel American Express, a family business established in 1988. She has marketing consulting business and is an Associate Faculty for the University of Phoenix Bay Area Campus.

CPE Credits:

  • 3 CPE credits will be provided in a Group-live instructional delivery method for Personal Development. There is no fee required for members to attend the session and the learning environment does not require any prerequisite or advanced preparation. Non-member fee $40
