ALPFA (Association of Latino Professionals For America) is the longest standing Latino organization with 90,000+ members – a number we plan to grow aggressively to 100,000 within the next years.

In addition to networking and professional leadership development opportunities, our members have access to 50,000 paid summer internships through hundreds of Fortune 1000 corporate partners. We aspire to be the business partner of choice for companies seeking to hire and develop Latino talent.

Our members are assembled in 44 professional and more than 160 student chapters across America. Our vision is to be the premier business organization for expanding opportunities for Latino leadership in the global market.

Today, ALPFA is well-positioned to assist America’s Latino owned and operated companies and Fortune 500 to recruit, retain and develop professional Latino/Hispanic talent in every sector of the U.S. and global economy.

We also promote a culture of philanthropy throughout the Latino community, encouraging our members to volunteer with, and engage on behalf of, local charities. We actively seek hands-on leadership building experiences for our members and to engage that considerable talent to make a measurable impact for national charitable organizations.

History

ALPFA is the leading national professional association, consisting of chapters across the country and Puerto Rico. ALPFA is dedicated to enhancing opportunities for Latinos in the business, accounting, finance and related professions. ALPFA is a not-for-profit entity registered with the Internal Revenue Service. Membership is open to anyone who shares our values, mission, and principles.

ALPFA is the proud successor of the American Association of Hispanic Certified Public Accountants (AAHCPA), the first national Latino professional association in the United States. Established in 1972, this Association continues to build upon our proud legacy of shared values and guiding principles.

Upon this bedrock of shared values, the Association’s visionary founders launched an ambitious mission that they pursued over the course of thirty years. Committed to its shared values and to its mission, the Association flourished, expanding its base of operations to fifteen chapters nation-wide with several more in formation.

As heir to this rich legacy, ALPFA’s current Board of Directors, with the support of the Corporate Advisory Board, is innovatively addressing the challenges that lie ahead by promoting the highest standards of excellence for itself and for its members. ALPFA advances into the 21st century as an experienced professional association dedicated to enhancing opportunities for Latinos in the accounting, finance and related professions.

Key Milestones

1972 – The American Association of Hispanic Certified Public Accountants (AAHCPA) is established as the first national Latino professional association in the United States.

2001 – AAHCPA expanded the reach of its mission to include finance professionals and changed its name to the Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting.

2002 – Launched Women of ALPFA initiative to provide unique development and networking opportunities for ALPFA’s Latina members and the companies that want to reach them.

2009 – ALPFA reached over 10,000 members and merged with the National Hispanic Business Association (NHBA) to create an organization of over 14,000 members.

2010 – The organization changed its name to ALPFA, Inc.

2011 – Launched ALPFA Talent Solutions to provide advisory services, research, and insights

2014 – ALPFA, Inc. now stands for Association of Latino Professionals For America, expanding the organization’s influence beyond finance and accounting and into every sector of the economy.

Chapter History

The ALPFA Seattle Chapter was founded in March 2005 as the first chapter in the Pacific Northwest. We currently have over 120 members, five active committees (Membership, Fundraising, Event Planning, Student Outreach and Public Relations) and a Board of Directors. Our membership is comprised of professionals from a range of industries, including Big Four accounting firms, regional and local firms, real estate, financial services and students from local universities and community colleges.

The first ALPFA informational meeting took place in January 2005, five months after the Convention. The meeting was sponsored by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) and was held at the Seattle office, in which over 25 attendees were present. Ed, Maria and Nerelys worked diligently to spread the word about ALPFA in Seattle and the surrounding communities.

The launch of the Seattle Chapter was held on Thursday, March 24th, 2005. The event was hosted by KPMG, LLP, and took place at the Washington Athletic Club, where featured speakers included Rosemary Rodriguez, Immediate Past President of ALPFA, Shanina Rivera-Relles, VP of Administration of ALPFA and Greg Alwood, Lead International Tax Partner of the Seattle KPMG Office. The event was a success with over 50 attendees!
