Alejandro Reyna - President
Alejandro (Alex) Reyna is Vice President for Goldman Sachs, a leading global financial institution. Alex currently manages Funding Operations for Goldman Sachs Execution & Clearing, L.P., a registered U.S. broker dealer, and is responsible for overseeing client cash and collateral management, and its impact to Firm’s liquidity.
Alex joined Goldman Sachs in Mexico City in 2000 in the Finance Division. He was responsible for the preparation of Financial Statements to the National Banking and Securities Commission (CNBV) as well as financial reporting to GS New York Headquarters. Additionally, he supported Treasury Operations and Global Operations, and participated in the implementation of new procedures for GS Do Brasil Banco Multiplo.
After Goldman Sachs Mexico closed its operations in 2001, Alex joined Merrill Lynch Mexico in the Finance Division, taking additional responsibilities in financial management reporting for the Latam region. In 2003, he re-joined Goldman Sachs Controllers in New York focusing on the preparation of Financial Statements and Regulatory Computations (FINRA Reserve Formula 15c3-3 and Net Capital 15c3-1 Rules). In 2008, he transitioned to GSEC Operations to initiate a Funding team dedicated to managing capital and entity financing.
Alex earned his B.A. in Accounting with Major in Finance from the Universidad Iberoamericana (UIA) in Mexico City and is a Certified Public Accountant. He was founder and president of the Mexican Institute of Financial Executives (IMEF) UIA Chapter and editor of the first IMEF Universitario Magazine. He was also member of the IMEF Universitario National Convention Steering Committee, with events held in Acapulco and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
He is also member of the Utah Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and co-head of the Salt Lake City GS Operations Hispanic Latin Network.
Alex Ashwal - Executive Vice President
Ashwal is Vice President – Product Controller for The Goldman Sachs Group (GS), a leading global investment banking, securities and investment management firm that provides financial services to corporations, financial institutions, governments and high-net-worth individuals. He is also the Co-Controller of the Salt Lake City office where he manages a team of approximately 100 Finance Controllers across various divisions.
Prior to joining GS, Alex was with The American Express Company (AXP), where he held the position of Vice President in External Reporting. He served as a team leader for the diverse group of employees responsible for the SEC filings, Annual Report and earnings release documents. Prior to joining AXP, he was a senior audit manager at Deloitte & Touché LLP in which he was involved in technical accounting research and contributed to the development and delivery of professional continuing education. Alex also instructed accounting classes for the California State University of Fullerton for several years.
Alex received his Bachelor of Science in Finance and Masters of Accounting from USC’s Marshall School of Business. He is the author of several articles that have been published in The Review of Business Journal, AICPA’s Journal of Accountancy, and the New England Business Administration Association Journal. He also currently serves on USC’s Marshall School of Business Undergraduate Advisory Board.
Josephine Kraat - Vice President of Memberships
Josephine serves as Vice President of Memberships for the ALPFA Salt Lake City Chapter and Associate Controller for The Goldman Sachs Group (GS), a leading global investment banking, securities and investment management firm that provides financial services to corporations, financial institutions, governments and high-net-worth individuals. In 2008, she gained responsibilities within the financial reporting framework for GS entities in Brazil, United Kingdom and the Unites States. Josephine currently manages Federal Reserve Regulatory Report filings for Goldman Sachs, based on a global strategic application, within the Financial Systems & Analysis Department.
She received her B.A. in Engineering Economics from UPSA (Universidad Privada de Santa Cruz – Santa Cruz, Bolivia) and her Masters Degree in Accounting and Finance from Keller Graduate School of Management in New York in 2009. During her academic period, she participated actively with local business owners and graduates to promote and motivate entrepreneurial interest in the community. While earning her B.A., she assisted Faculty professors in meeting their various academic goals.
Josephine is a member of the Steering Committee for Goldman Sachs Finance Hispanic Latino Network, and a Board member of Revolution United, a registered non-profit outreach organization in Salt Lake City that develops projects to satisfy specific interests and needs proposed and approved by the local community.
Oscar Marquina - Vice President of Student Affairs
Oscar Marquina earned his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Utah State University in 2006. While completing his bachelor’s degree, he successfully started and managed two small businesses in the vending and retail industry. After doubling the size of this businesses, Oscar sold them to concentrate on his academic career.
In 2010, Oscar obtained a Masters in Business Administration with a focus on lean operations, a production practice centered on preserving value with less work. In parallel to his graduate studies, Oscar joined a team commissioned by the Utah Governor’s Economic Development Office to produce a guide for Utah businesses exploring China sourcing.
Oscar’s professional passion lies around building and growing businesses. He has worked in the Manufacturing and Agricultural Marketing industries in a variety of competencies, such as: operations management, commodity trading, continuous improvement and freight buyer. Outside of work, he is dedicated to enhancing educational and professional opportunities for the Latino community. Oscar is also an active member of the Utah Society of HispanicProfessional Engineers (SHPE).
David Olivares - Vice President Technology and Communication
David is Vice President of Technology for Goldman Sachs, a U.S. registered broker-dealer and global leader in the financial industry. He currently manages Client Tax Technology, Legal Entity Management Technology and Client Reference Data Technology groups for Goldman Sachs in Salt Lake City.
David earned his B.S. in Computer Science from Stony Brook University in 1999 and an M.S. Degree in Technology Management from Columbia University in New York in 2011.Upon graduating from Stony Brook University, David joined UBS where he developed a communication framework for traders to review and approve orders. In 2004, David was awarded a US Patent for his innovative work on secured alert messaging.
In 2005, David took a lead developer role in the Treasury Technology team at Goldman Sachs where he was responsible for the build out of the strategic treasury systems including a payments engine, cash settlements and cash management systems.
David co-chairs the Hispanic Latino Network of Goldman Sachs in Salt Lake City and also represents the SLC Technology organization as Team Captain for the Goldman Sachs Diversity STEM Committee. David is an active member of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) – Utah Chapter.
