Chairman - John Ramirez

Dean of Operations, School of Advanced Studies at University of Phoenix

Mr. John Ramirez is a retired US Army Command Sergeant Major with over 27 years of military service. During his distinguished 27-year military career, Command Sergeant Major (Retired) Ramirez held numerous leadership positions. He also served as a committee member of the US Army’s Special Executive Review Board for the Center for Strategic Leadership, and in 2004, selected as one of the “Top Hispanic Leaders” in the Army. He is a graduate from the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy and recipient of the Sergeant Major of the Army William Bainbridge Ethics Award.


Mr. Ramirez has been a member of the University of Phoenix for over 10 years. He has held numerous positions that include Senior Operations Manager, Director of Operations, Associate Campus Director, and Vice President of External Military Relations. He is currently the Dean of Operations for the School of Advanced Studies.


Mr. Ramirez earned his Master of Business Administration from Arizona State University and a Master of Science and Administration of Justice and Security with a concentration in Global and Homeland Security from University of Phoenix. He is a life-long learner and has a passion for education.


Mr. Ramirez is also active with numerous groups including Council of Colleges and Military Educators, National Association of Institutions for Military Education Services, American Society for Industrial Security, American Legion, Arizona Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and American Association of Hispanics in Higher Education.


Mr. Ramirez has been married to his wife Sonya for 38 years. They have five children and nine grandchildren.




Alain Monroy


Commercial Banker at JPMorgan Chase & Co. and former President of ALPFA Phoenix


Alain was born in Havana, Cuba and raised in Las Vegas, NV.  He attended the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV), where he served in the Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) program and graduated in 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Political Science.  Following graduation, he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant and entered active duty in the U.S. Army Field Artillery.  Upon his graduation from the Field Artillery Officer Basic Course at Fort Sill, OK, Alain served five years with the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, NC where he held various positions to include Platoon Leader and Executive Officer.  From 2011-2012 he was deployed to Northern Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.  In 2014, Alain graduated from the Field Artillery Captain’s Career Course at Fort Sill, OK and served two years as a Captain with the 25th Infantry Division at Schofield Barracks, HI.


 In 2016, Alain transitioned out of active duty military and was selected as one of the inaugural members of the JPMorgan Chase & Co. Military Officer Executive Development Program (MOEDP) in Phoenix, AZ. Alain is the recipient of the 2017 ALPFA Veteran of the Year Award, 2016 Phoenix 40 Under 40 Award, Nevada Congressional Leadership Award, four Army Commendation Medals, Afghanistan Campaign and NATO Medals.  He is a graduate of the U.S. Army Airborne, Air Assault and Ranger Schools.  Alain has been featured in the Phoenix Business Journal, Latino Leaders Magazine and U.S. Veterans Magazine.  He is married to the former Jennifer Mondolino and they live in Scottsdale, AZ.



David G. Clower

Chief Credit Officer at Raza Development Fund

Mr. David G. Clower joined RDF as its Chief Credit Officer in 2010 with over 20 years of commercial and investment banking experience covering commercial real estate, venture debt for technology companies, private equity, and socially responsible impact investing.  He is responsible for setting business strategy and managing the growth of quality assets under management at RDF; and has overseen the organization and execution of the firm’s specialty finance businesses dedicated to the Education, Affordable Housing, and Healthcare industries; and established new investment platforms focused on the US/Mexico Border and Gulf Coast Regions. 


Mr. Clower is a member of the New Markets Tax Credit Coalition Board of Directors and the Bank of America Merrill Lynch Community Advisory Board.  He is a multi-national with dual citizenship in the United States and México.  He studied Applied Economics at the University of San Francisco; Commercial Real Estate Finance at MIT; and Strategic Business Leadership at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.




Annabelle Salcedo

Market Director at JPMorgan Chase & Co.


Ms. Annabelle Salcedo currently serves as an executive for JPMorgan Chase. Ms. Salcedo joined JPMorgan Chase in 2002. She has held numerous leadership positions that include Branch Manager, Sales Manager for International Financial Services, District Manager, and her current position as Executive Market Director for JPMorgan Chase in the Southwest Arizona Territory.


Ms. Salcedo is actively involved in several Business Resource Groups within JP Morgan Chase. These groups include Adelante (where she serves as a Board Member), Women's Interactive Network (WIN), and the GoodWorks Volunteer Program. Ms. Salcedo was a member of the Regional Diversity team and worked on several initiatives to create awareness and provide resources to employees. She is a highly proficient, talented, and experienced leader who believes in developing people and helping them reach their fullest potential.


Ms. Salcedo was born and raised in Nogales, Arizona, where her parents still reside. Ms. Salcedo earned her B.A. from the University of Arizona and has three brothers who are all first generation college educated. She is life-long learner, passionate about education, and looks for opportunities to encourage our youth of today.


Ms. Salcedo is an avidWildcat” fan and follows all University of Arizona athletics (she is currently a basketball season ticket holder). She also enjoys watching college and professional football and her passion for sports brings out the competitiveness in her.





Michael Strati

Chief Development Officer at Northwestern Mutual

As the Chief Development Officer for Northwestern Mutual – Southwest, Mike is responsible for overseeing the recruitment/ selection/ training of all new financial advisors, the development of their business plan and market growth, the growth of the internship program at six Division 1 schools, and oversees the leadership training and development program for his organization. Additionally, Mike Chair’s the firms Diversity and Inclusion Council. Mr. Strati’s offices are located in Arizona, New Mexico and El Paso, Texas.

Prior to coming to Phoenix six years ago, Mike and his wife of 20 years, Jennifer, lived in Albuquerque, New Mexico with their 2 daughters and 1 son (Giona, Calena, Antonio). They moved to Phoenix when Northwestern Mutual merged the Arizona, New Mexico and El Paso – Texas territories -> the largest geographical merger in the history of the 165 year old company.  He believed it would allow him the chance to live his mission of “helping people reach their full potential, beyond their expectations” by providing a larger opportunity to impact more people.

Mike has his Certified Leadership Fellow (CLF) through the American College and is a graduate of Leadership Albuquerque. In 2015, Mike was nominated by Northwestern Mutual and selected as a “Courageous Leader Award” presented by White Man as Full Diversity Partners (WMFDP) each year to seven leaders from across the country who work to improve diversity and inclusion within their company and the workplace as a whole. He currently serves on the boards for the University of New Mexico Alumni Council, Phoenix National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA) and coaches his son’s soccer team for RUSH Soccer Club.

A fun fact about Mike, he used to play professional soccer and has represented the United States National Soccer teams in Egypt, Japan and Argentina.






                                                           Dr. Kim Denning


        Academic Services Coordinator at ASU, College of Nursing and Health Innovation


Dr. Kim Denning is an Academic Services Coordinator in the College of Nursing and Health Innovation at Arizona State University. She is direct support to the Associate Dean for Research, the Tenure/Tenure Track Faculty Search Committee, Tenure/Tenure Track Faculty Academic Personnel Actions, and reports College of Nursing and Health Innovation personnel actions to the Office of the University Provost.

Dr. Denning earned her Bachelor of Arts in German from Arizona State University, a Master of Arts in Education in Adult Education and Distance Learning from University of Phoenix, as well as a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from University of Phoenix. Prior to earning academic degrees, Dr. Denning earned two vocational certificates in Cosmetology and Instructor of Cosmetology and is licensed in Arizona for Cosmetology and Instructor of Cosmetology.

Dr. Denning enjoys volunteering to such organizations such as Phoenix Children’s Hospital, Tempe Sister Cities, the Arizona Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame, and the International Agency on Chiropractic Evaluation, in addition to ALPFA. Dr. Denning is a native of Phoenix and is passionate about community involvement and civic engagement.
