This year's theme, Behavioral Health and Substance Abuse Outcomes, Treatment and Reform in Latino Communities, will explore:


  • Public health concerns with untreated behavioral health and substance abuse problems within the Latino Community
  • Issues with increases in ineffective and costly emergency room visit by substance abusers with untreated behavioral health problems
  • Strategies for earlier detection of behavioral health issues within the population
  • Recognize the actual prevalence of behavioral health issues among substance abusers
  • The importance of involving primary care physicians in behavioral health screening


The Healthcare Lecture is one of ALPFA Boston Chapter's boutique events, which has continually brought healthcare professionals together to learn about relevant topics in the industry.  The lecture features a subject matter expert who can discuss current topics  in a lecture-style setting with a networking reception culminating the evening.

Speaker: Steve Kozak, Director of Behavioral Health Services, Tufts Health Plan

Steve Kozak, LICSW has been leading the clinical programs and business operations of both health and behavioral health managed care, health insurance, and direct practice professional service settings for more than fifteen years. He currently serves as Director of Behavioral Health Services at Tufts Health Plan, where he oversees the utilization review, clinical case management, and call center operations that support behavioral health benefits and programs for Tufts Health Plan commercial and senior product members. Prior to entering the world of managed care his direct practice experience included delivering clinical social work and behavioral health services in crisis clinic, residential, primary care, outpatient, and Employee Assistance Program settings.
