Charles P. Garcia
Chief Executive Officer

Charles Garcia, CEO of ALPFA, has dedicated his career to championing the influence of Latinos in U.S. society. He has worked for four Presidents, both Republican and Democrat, and the book "Hispanics in the USA: Making History" picked him as one of 14 Latino role models for the nation. He grew up in the Republic of Panama, graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy, and was a highly decorated military officer. He founded Sterling Financial Group, the fastest growing Hispanic-owned business in the U.S. with sixty offices in seven counties and $2 billion in assets, before selling it in 2006, to then serve as one of the youngest members of a Fortune 500 board. Raymond Arroyo
President, ALPFA Solutions

Raymond's extensive background includes 25 years of experience with Fortune 100 companies as a senior executive in both human resources and general business, and as a board director for several nonprofit organizations. Raymond, a former Aetna chief diversity officer reporting to the CEO, was recognized as a top Hispanic executive in the U.S. in two consecutive years. During his tenure, Aetna achieved a Top 19 company for diversity rating, a marked improvement from its previous altogether exclusion from the list. Raymond earned B.S. and M.S. degrees from New York University and a governance certificate from Harvard University. He also serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and as a Senior Fellow of Plaza Institute as well as a member of its Global Enterprise Studies program. He has served on ALPFA's Corporate Advisory Board, as President of PRIMER, as a member of the Board of Regents of the University of Hartford, a Treasurer and Officer of the Wheeler Clinic Board of Trustees, and a board member of the National Hispanic Medical Association.

Selene Benavides
Chief Financial Officer

Selene Benavides is Client Finance Director with Consero Global where she helps companies address complex financial requirements with software applications while scaling finance operations more efficiently and reducing G&A expenses to allow for greater investment in driving and supporting top line growth for her clients. Prior to her new role, Ms. Benavides was the Chief Financial Officer/Chief Operations Officer for the National Society of Hispanic MBAs, located in Irving, Texas where she was responsible for helping its leadership define the strategic direction of the organization, enhance its offerings and reduce its expenses, all while overseeing the Operations, Finance, Legal, and IT functions of the business which includes 40 Chapters across the nation.

Julio Carbonell
Chief Information Officer

Julio was Senior Vice President and CIO of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), a not-for-profit entity dedicated to the humane treatment of animals. As the ASPCA’s first CIO, he developed the strategy that led to the transformation of technology services to better align with the mission of serving victims of animal cruelty and of providing positive outcomes for at-risk animals. Previously he was Vice President of Information Technology at the Major League Baseball Office of the Commissioner (MLB) where he led the strategic direction and evolution of technology services for MLB’s central offices and teams. Prior to joining MLB, he was a Vice President and Product Manager with Citicorp Information Resources. Julio holds an accounting degree from the New York City College of Technology in Brooklyn, NY.

Leni Delgado
General Counsel

Leni Delgado started her legal career in New York City, often representing Fortune 500 companies in a variety of areas, including: Latin America corporate deals, commercial litigation, employment contracts and policies, intellectual property, securities, and antitrust. She has also received accolades for her pro-bono work. Leni received her law degree from Harvard Law School. She received her bachelor's degree in history from the University of Florida, where she graduated summa cum laude with a 4.0 GPA. She is a fluent Spanish speaker and an avid fan of mixed martial arts.

Migdalia Diaz
Chief Operating Officer

As Chief Operating Officer of ALPFA, Migdalia’s goal is to create a future where any Latino can look in any direction, in any industry, and find a Latino role model to emulate. Prior to joining ALPFA, Migdalia was the Priority Projects Manager for AIRINC, working with the Operations Committee to prioritize company projects and deliver those projects while also managing two suites of products. Prior to her role at AIRINC, Migdalia worked for 10 years in the International Assignment Solutions Group for PricewaterhouseCoopers in the Hartford, Connecticut; Auckland, New Zealand and Boston, Massachusetts offices. She managed clients with small and medium sized expatriate programs and assisted them with the specific tax compliance, policy and payroll related issues unique to programs of this size. Migdalia also served in the Connecticut Army National Guard for eight years where she learned the importance of teamwork and of working efficiently. Migdalia graduated with a B.S. in Accounting from the University of Connecticut. She has been an active ALPFA member for the past ten years since attending the ALPFA Convention in Miami in 2005. She served as the Chair of Marquee Events and has been the President of the Boston Chapter since October 2013. Under her leadership the Chapter was recognized in 2014 as the Leading Chapter of the Year by ALPFA and was also honored by El Mundo Newspaper as Community Partner of the year.

Verna Greer
Senior Vice President of Corporate Development and Programming

Verna is a results-driven Accredited Business Advisor and a Certified Fundraising Executive (CFE) with business development expertise. She specializes in providing executive leadership and guidance to build new and existing organizations in the not-for-profit and private sectors. She is consistently successful in increasing effectiveness, productivity and profitability at all levels, while surpassing goals and expectations. Verna received her Bachelor of Science degree with honors from Northeastern University and later graduated among the top 10 in her class from the Northeastern Graduate School of Business where she earned a MBA with an emphasis in entrepreneurialism.

Frank Lopez
Senior Vice President of Corporate Development and Foundations

Frank is an accomplished visionary executive with demonstrated ability to deliver mission-critical results throughout the pillar areas of diversity and inclusion practices in the corporate sector. He has experience leading and managing all levels and pillars of corporate, not-for-profit development and diversity/inclusion relationship-building initiatives and strategic alliances. Frank has been instrumental in leading dynamic national trade associations and has achieved strategic expansion through development of strategic alliances with major corporate and philanthropy stakeholders from across the nation. He has led campaigns to expand community based service capacity footprint from coast to coast, including in Puerto Rico.

Radhames Nova
Senior Vice President of Corporate Development and Strategic Initiatives

Radhames Nova joined ALPFA in October 2011 as Executive Director of the Boston Chapter. He currently oversees operations, including development and support of ALPFA’s professional and student chapters. Radhames leads planning, development and implementation of ALPFA’s Latino Business 500, a new organizational initiative to connect Latino businesses and corporations throughout the United States for supplier diversity opportunities. He obtained his B.A. from Middlebury College and his MBA from Boston University.


David Peña
President, Colleges & Universities

David Peña’s professional accomplishments are as varied as his career. He has been a candidate for political office at the age of 23, began his career in the insurance industry, transitioned to a business owner, lobbyist, to non-profit executive. For over nineteen years he has worked for multiple non-profits in roles such as; Executive Director for the Valley Alliance of Mentors for Opportunities and Scholarships (VAMOS), Director of Advocacy (Lobbyist) for the American Heart Association, Executive Director for the National Hispanic Business Association (NHBA), Senior Vice President of Programs for the Association of Latino Professionals For America, (ALPFA), Founder/Consultant for the DPJ Consulting Group and President of the Greater Austin Asian Chamber of Commerce and Executive Director/CEO for the Hispanic Dental Association (HDA).


Lori Ruff
Senior Vice President, Membership. Colleges & Universities

Lori Ruff, ALPFA’s ‘Chief Brand Evangelist,’ is one of the Top 50 most connected individuals on LinkedIn. She is a long-standing authority on social media, ecommerce, branding, and building engaged and loyal communities of fans, advocates and influencers. A LinkedIn Ambassador, she was featured in Aug 2016 by Inc. as one of "18 Women Influencing a New Generation of Entrepreneurs", and Forbes has included her in both releases (2012 & 2015) of their Top 50 Social Media Power Influencers’ list. She is ranked #7 Social Media Power Influencer Woman globally by CEO World (in cooperation with Pew Research and Neilson). She is a 2014 Top 100 (Social Media) Community Manager, American Genius Beat Top 50 Industry Influencer, WE Magazine’s Top 101 Women in eCommerce, Moody’s 50 Favorite People of 2012 & 2014 and Webbiquity’s #Nifty50 Top Twitter Women Writers. Her latest of 8 books is “Suite Branding: The Ultimate Guide to Personal Branding for Today’s Top Performers.”

Lori, perhaps best known as "The Heart of Social Media", is determined about her personal ALPFA mission to attract members, help expand the number of student chapters, and to teach students not only to be mentored, but to mentor others. This will inspire maturity toward community service and philanthropy through active participation in causes that create exponential impact on the next generation of Latino leaders, who will in turn impact America.

Luis Vargas
Chief Marketing Officer

Luis Vargas’ background covers several industries, and disciplines within the marketing function. He has worked for companies such as Unilever, Walmart, Heinz, Novartis and Bayer in International marketing, new product development and innovation, category management, brand management and multicultural marketing. Prior to joining ALPFA he was also an entrepreneur. He helped foreign companies penetrate the US market, one of such being a Sri Lankan tea wholesaler, with a successful product line development and launch of a new brand of black and green tea for the US market, currently in distribution in 7000+ Family Dollar stores. Luis was named “2011 Top 100 Under 50 Diverse Emerging Leader”, by Diversity MBA Magazine and is a member of the Corporate Executive Forum at the Hispanic Association on Corporate Responsibility (HACR.org). Luis received his Bachelor’s degree in Business Management from Universidad Católica Andres Bello in Caracas, Venezuela, and an MBA with emphasis in Marketing from Northeastern University in Boston, MA. Luis has lived in 4 countries, and has traveled to 30+. He is a fitness enthusiast, active 3rd dan Taekwondo instructor at his local YMCA, experienced skydiver with 500+ jumps, and a world-traveled snowboarder.
