Dear Chicago ALPFAmilia:
Un fuerte abrazo from the ALPFA Chicago Office of the President. We hope that 2018 has begun and continues in success for each of you. We wanted to take a moment to, first, thank you for your ongoing participation in our organization and to share with you some of our chapter’s successes from 2017 and our vision for 2018. We hope that the preview of what is to come gets you as excited and energized as we are to actively participate with ALPFA Chicago this year.
2017 was a year of fantastic accomplishments and highlights for our chapter.
- Our chapter saw an increase of 36% in our membership base, as well as increased participation at our events and an increase in volunteer leaders.
- Student Symposium was the largest symposium in ALPFA’s history bringing in over 300 students represented across 50 different schools from the Midwest. The symposium brought together Latino students in all career majors for a day of insight, guidance, leadership skills and professional development opportunities, which will provide an edge in today’s competitive job market.
- Two of our accomplished senior leaders joined ALPFA’s national leadership: Mauricio Gonzalez joined ALPFA’s Board of Directors, while Hugo Chaviano joined the Corporate Advisory Board. Mauricio and Hugo bring valuable experience and insight to ALPFA as a whole, and are impressive representatives for our chapter at the national level.
At the end of 2017, Eduardo Tobon’s term as President of our chapter came to a close, having led us through our chapter’s restructuring and the many successes of 2016 and 2017. Eduardo will continue serving in the Chicago Senior Leadership Committee as well as the national Corporate Advisory Board.
And so, the close of 2017 found us with rolled-up sleeves, planning the execution our vision for 2018: to connect. To connect our members with the best opportunities in Corporate America. To connect our strategic partners with the amazing Latino talent in Chicagoland. To connect our student members with our professional members so that we create a strong pipeline of Latino leaders in Chicago for years to come. To that end, we are very excited to announce the formal rollout of ALPFA Connect, a chapter initiative to connect job seekers with employment opportunities. If you are a member or strategic partner looking to learn more about ALPFA Connect, please contact the ALPFA Connect Team at firstname.lastname@example.org. Let us help you, our members and partners, to connect for impact!
To bring our members and strategic partners together more broadly, we have also developed a robust calendar of events for 2018. Whether you are a junior level, mid-career, or senior executive, you will find events that provide substantive and hands-on career development experiences. Our aim is to help each of you develop skills that will make you the cream of the crop in talent for Corporate America. And we did not forget those just looking for a fun time to meet other Latino professionals! Every quarter, we will have a low-key networking event, where we can come together to get to know each other more and to build stronger networks of fellow Latinos in Chicago. Check out our Facebook page for our 2018 events!
Finally, there is no ALPFA without ALPFA Way, our continuing effort to create more engaged Latino civic leaders. We continue with our partnerships with the Girl Scouts of America, Junior Achievement, the Ronald McDonald House, and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. This year, we are also partnering with the Chicago Aldermanic Latino Caucus on ways to increase the presence of Latinos at all professional levels in Chicago government, corporations, and non-profits. If you are interested in learning more about the various ALPFA Way programs, please contact Blanca Sepulveda.
A popular Spanish proverb says “dime con quien andas y te dire quien eres” - translated to “tell me who you hang out with and I’ll tell you who you are”. Each of us in the Chicago Office of the President hopes that this year we have the honor and privilege to “andar” with each of you. You, our committed and dedicated members and partners, make our Chicago Chapter the marquee professional organization that it is and a leader within ALPFA nationally. ALPFA Chicago would not be what it is without you.
Here’s to a successful 2018!
