Privacy Policy

ALPFA is committed to protecting your privacy. The ALPFA web site located on the internet at http://www.alpfa.org has various areas of access for various levels of authorization. These areas and users presently are categorized as: the general public (Public), members (Members), chapter management and national management (Management), and chapter sponsors and local sponsors (Sponsors).

Public

Public users are not required to disclose any personal information in order to view most of the Site content. ALPFA may gather some personal identifiable information when it is voluntarily submitted by the user. The types of information ALPFA might collect includes, but is not limited to, your name, email address, phone number, and postal address. This information is used for it's intended purpose, and to better serve the users. All personally identifiable information obtained from users is treated with great care in order to protect your privacy and security. The management of ALPFA authorizes only trained and qualified persons to access the information you choose to provide. The information volunteered is used solely by ALPFA and will not be shared with unrelated outside parties.

From time to time, ALPFA may use your address, phone number or e-mail address to provide you with updates and other information we think may be of interest to you. You may opt-out of such notices in the future by forwarding the message from the email account in which it was received to unsubscribe.national@alpfa.org.

ALPFA collects the e-mail addresses of those who communicate with us via e-mail. ALPFA does not currently sell e-mail addresses to any third party.  ALPFA collects information volunteered by users in relation to an on-line survey and/or site registrations. This information is kept confidential by the ALPFA and is not used for purposes outside of the intent of the survey or registration form.  Should you choose to inquire about an employment opportunity at ALPFA through our on-line employment application, your contact information and/or resume will only be used by the Human Resources Team in considering you for the specified employment opportunity. All information received will be kept confidential.

Members

Certain content or features are available only to current ALPFA members in good standing who are registered. In order to initiate or renew your ALPFA membership, you will need to register by providing certain required personal information and payment of membership dues. If you register on-line using a credit card, your credit card information is not stored by ALPFA.

Any personal information collected as part of the registration process will not be shared with any third party without your explicit permission to do so. ALPFA gathers certain information for the purposes of internal administrative or informational contact, statistical reporting, or to determine membership eligibility. You may review or modify your profile information by accessing the My Account page within the Site. Notwithstanding the foregoing, ALPFA reserves the right to contact you regarding your account and other minimally necessary administrative or legally required matters relevant to this site, our organization or services.

During the registration process, you are also given the opportunity to indicate whether you want us to send notifications to you regarding ALPFA news and events. At any time, you may also opt-out of receiving this information by updating your information through My Account.

ALPFA collects and captures into a private, secure database additional demographic information (such as address, birth date, gender, income, employer, education, certifications, specializations, etc.) to better understand the profile of our membership and to tailor our on-going activities, alliances, services, features, benefits, marketing and informational material and web site content. Certain personal information (marital status, income, and number in household) is aggregated in a master database on the web server maintained by our web hosting service provider; and this certain personal information is not downloaded or provided to any ALPFA employee or member in such a form that would enable direct correlation or identification of any such personal information to any individual ALPFA member; such information is provided by the web hosting service in an aggregated report only to certain administrative level ALPFA employees and members; the personal information fields containing marital status, income, and number in household are excluded from the database download that is provided or available to certain administrative level ALPFA employees and members. Further, we may be asked to provide aggregate membership demographic data to existing and potential partners; the information provided to them will not contain any individual's data in a specifically identifiable form; the data provided will be the aggregation of information from our entire membership nationally or from a particular chapter. You may review or modify information previously provided by accessing the My Account page within the site.

Further, we may be asked to provide aggregate site traffic and usage information to existing and potential partners. This information will not contain any personal data other than the aggregation of information from our entire site.

Our policy is to retain the information collected for a period of four years following the lapsing of your subscription or site license. This allows you to renew your subscription within that timeframe and retain your personal account history. On an annual basis, we will delete all inactive accounts with no activity for four years.

Managers

In addition to the privacy disclosures for all Members as described above, ALPFA Mangers have the ability to access, read or modify certain confidential content not available to the public or other members. Modification of a member's individual information will be done as the result of an event which reasonably justifies such action, such as, but not limited to, a request or notification received from you. Such information access and use will always conform to the privacy Policy set-forth above pertaining to all members.

Sponsors

In addition to the content available to the Public, ALPFA Sponsors may be granted access to certain confidential content (such as resumes, aggregate membership statistics or aggregate site traffic and usage information). Sponsors will not be granted full, unlimited access to ALPFA's entire membership database. Such information, access and use will always conform to the privacy Policy set-forth above pertaining to all members.

Security

The importance of security for all personal information associated with all our users is of utmost concern to us. We exercise great care in providing secure transmission of your information from your computer to our servers. Unfortunately, no data transmission over the Internet can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. Once we receive your transmission, we make our best effort to ensure its security on our systems. When credit card information is transmitted we use industry standard, SSL (secure socket layer) encryption. ALPFA uses Verisign, the leading provider of Internet payment services, for all credit card transactions.

Your ALPFA profile is password protected. Only you and selected ALPFA Management can access, read or edit your member profile information. We recommend that you do not divulge your password to anyone. ALPFA will never ask you for your password in an unsolicited phone call or e-mail. Ultimately, you are responsible for maintaining the secrecy of your passwords and any account information.

Internet Technologies

In addition to the information that you might intentionally enter into forms on our website, many people are concerned that certain technologies can be used or abused to compromise an individual's privacy while online. At our websites, we make no effort to gather information from you without your knowledge. The following topics are included below in order to make available to you our policies regarding two such technologies.

Cookies

Our site, like most of today's popular Internet locations, uses cookies to facilitate connections with our web site. We do not store information about you in the cookie files we create, nor do we allow a cookie to grant access to your personal data. Our cookie files merely identify you as someone who has visited our site previously and allow you to access our site more easily. In effect, it tells us you've registered and once you sign in, that you have an active session at www.alpfa.org. Again, we do not store any personal information in the cookie file.

If your browser is set to reject cookies (including setting Internet Explorer security to "High" for the Internet zone), you may access all Public areas of the site however access to the Member area of our site will be denied. Note, for Internet Explorer, you are able to set preferences differently for "per-session" vs. "stored" cookies. ALPFA's web site requires the per-session cookies are not disabled. In Netscape, the "accept cookies that are sent back to the originating server" option is an acceptable setting. Regardless of your cookie settings, access to all Public content is allowed.

IP Addresses

The computer that hosts our web site records IP addresses only for purposes of activity tracking across days, weeks and months of use. We make no effort to use IP addresses as a means of correlating data from separate interactive sessions with our web site or the web sites of other companies. IP addresses are not linked in any way to personal information. Additional information collected by our server includes your browser type and the date/time that you accessed our site.

Links to Other Sites

Users should be aware that when you are visiting ALPFA's web site (www.alpfa.org), you could be directed to other sites that are beyond our control. For example, if you "click" on a banner advertisement, the "click" takes you off the ALPFA site. This includes links from advertisers, sponsors and partners that may use ALPFA's logo as part of a co-branding agreement. These other sites may send their own cookies to users, collect data or solicit personal information. Please keep in mind that whenever you give out personal information online --- for example, via message boards or chat --- that information can be collected and used by people you don't know. While ALPFA strives to protect its users' personal information and privacy, we cannot guarantee the security of any information you disclose online and you do so at your own risk. ALPFA's policy does not extend to anything that is inherent in the operation of the Internet, and therefore beyond ALPFA's control, and is not to be applied in any manner contrary to applicable law or governmental regulation.
