 Welcome to ALPFA New York!

A Message from the President:

Dear ALPFA New York Familia,

Coming on the heels of a fantastic convention in Las Vegas, we have much to be thankful for and much to look forward to.

Of the nearly 3,000 participants at the 2017 National Convention, ALPFA NY had a very strong contingent of over 400 attendees comprising partners, professional and student members and their families.
One of the highlights of the convention was seeing our very own ALPFA NY student from Monroe College, Maricela Laines-Crus, receive the 2017 Daniel Zamora Award for Student of the Year. Maricela exemplifies the hard work, perseverance and hope for the future that drives us all. Have a look at her receiving the award. Congratulations Maricela!

Speaking of college chapters, our very own Baruch College was recognized as ALPFA Student Northeast Regional Chapter of the Year! What a great accolade for the hard working and industrious ALPFA Baruch College team!

Thanks to your support throughout the year in our fundraising efforts we were able to increase the number of scholarship students sent from ALPFA NY to the Convention from 13 last year to 18 this year. The students are:

          Marian Abao, Lehman College
          Laura Barrenche, Queens College
          Michelle Bello, Queens College
          Steven Cepeda, Queens College
          Jairam Dookoo, Queens College
          Gregory Duran Hernandez, Mercy College
          Nathalie Figuereo, Baruch College
          Nick Guillen, Lehman College
          Maricela Laines Crus, Monroe College
          Mirjana Llana, Baruch College
          Robert Luna, Lehman College
          Shree Marrajh, Mercy College
          Vivianna Pachay, Lehman College
          Steven Pelaez, Baruch College
          Dror Refaeli, Monmouth University
          Johanna Retamozo, Pace University
          Nevin Shah, Hofstra University
          Japneet Singh, Queens College

Congratulations to all and best of luck with your interviews, internships and job offers. Thank you ALPFAmilia!

In addition, we had Senior Leadership Council (SLC) participation in a number of venues and activities including Ted Acosta from EY hosting and leading the LGBTQ session which was one of the most attended and talked about gatherings.

SLC member Bernadette Aulestia of HBO hosted and was part of a Women of ALPFA panel that including ALPFA NY partner Nellie Borrero from Accenture.

Pedro Garcia of Accenture moderated a panel discussion on how to promote a work environment of support, leadership and personal growth in which I had the honor of participating in with Nellie Borrero.

Also Pete Rodriguez of BNY Mellon was most active in panels and behind and in front of the scenes throughout the 4-day gathering.

Our I Love New York mixer had over 100 attendees celebrating ALPFA New York’s hard work and honoring our partners and our students. We thank our partners and guests for joining us and for helping make this year’s convention a successful one. We are hearing from our students and professional members as well as our partners that they were able to connect with each other and move their professional ambitions forward as well as bond closer to new and old friends and colleagues.

Thank you all for your continued support. We look forward to building on the Las Vegas Convention momentum and driving value to our partners and members.

We will build that momentum into activities we have planned for the rest of 2017 which include:

September 29th Student Event at S&P Global:

October 13th JA For A Day Volunteer Opportunity: Volunteer with ALPFA NY and Junior Achievement! Email to learn how you can participate.

November 3rd Masquerade Ball:

November 28th Women of ALPFA Summit:

Lastly, I invite you to join us in building our community and empowering Latino leaders. Email to learn how you can volunteer with ALPFA NY.

 About ALPFA New York

ALPFA (Association of Latino Professionals for America) is a national, not-for-profit professional association that creates opportunities, adds value, and builds relationships for its members, the community and its business partners while expanding Latino Leadership in the global workforce.

The ALPFA New York Chapter embarked on a journey in 2015 to reorganize our structure. One key change was the establishment of a Senior Leadership Council (SLC) comprised of the senior-most Latino and Latina leaders from Corporate America. These leaders represent the best of New York, and they provide much needed mentorship and guidance to our Chapter as we grow to new levels. Additionally, they are instrumental in helping our members connect more closely with rewarding careers in Corporate America.
