Join us for our ALPFA Boston’s Annual Student Summit! This year entitled “Latino Millennials: Developing Your Strategy to Succeed in Your Career” will focus on developing our student Latino leaders through self-knowledge. Being an authentic leader entails understanding themselves – their drives, needs, likes and dislikes. This event hopes to equip our students with the proper tools will help them reach higher levels with a greater sense of confidence and true identity.

In addition, for the first time ever, ALPFA will host a High School Student Summit along with our college student summit. The High School Summit will focus on providing students the essential tools to think ahead and prepare for college. Students will learn to: Think, Plan and Succeed in College and will learn from Latino professionals in Greater Boston who are succeeding in their careers. Students remember to bring your resumes for our career fair!

NEGOTIATE NOW FOR EQUAL PAY – Women Of ALPFA

Target audience: Female Students

Research has shown that there is a pay disparity between males and females. The pay gap is even greater between Latinas and white males. This session will focus on the skills, research and knowledge needed to negotiate the pay of your first job to minimize a negative downstream impact in your career.

MEN’S SESSION

Target audience: Male Students

In this session students will be able to participate in valuable interactions with male Latino professionals in different fields. These professionals will offer advice and share their stories on success in a candid conversation.

EMBRACING ENTREPRENEURSHIP

Target audience: All

In this session, students will learn how they can grow in their place of work and how to ask for more responsibilities and what works, what does not. In addition, the speakers will discuss how to succeed as a Latino professional. They will also learn how to advocate for self and how to embrace their culture in the workplace.

Target audience: All

The workshop would focus on helping the participants look at the goal-setting process and apply it to their own lives, while also defining a big vision for their personal/professional life and make conscious choices in the direction of those goals. I can teach this workshop or be part of panel.

FINANCIAL AID 1:1 / SCHOLARSHIPS - Out of Pocket: Positioning yourself to reduce the upfront cost of college and preparing of a sound financial recovery.

Target audience: High School Students

Incoming college students are under tremendous pressure to take on unreasonable debt in order to pursue their academic career. This session will highlight the varied avenues available to students such as the ones titled above. In addition to highlighting such avenues, the session will show examples of how an “out of reach school” may be affordable with creative funding. Also, in this session we will explore different options on how to research and apply for scholarships. The goal is to give students the tools necessary and encourage them to apply to different scholarships to help pay for college.

TRANSITIONING FROM HIGH SCHOOL TO COLLEGE

Target audience: High School Students

This session will outline the main differences between being a high school and college Latino student. The range will cover from logistics and planning before you become a college student to how to adapt and deal with the emotional roller coaster that students typically experience transitioning to college.

FINANCIAL LITERACY

Target audience: High School Students

In this session students will have the ability to have an introduction to financial literacy, budgeting and saving. Being responsible for their expenses and how they manage their finances is an essential part of being in college and it is key that students learn the basics before venturing to their next chapter in life.

FINDING YOUR PLACE AT THE TABLE - WOMAN OF ALPFA PRESENTS

Target audience: Female Students

In this session the goal is to empower high school female students to reach all of their potential. By having a panel of professional women share their stories about their professional career as a Latino Woman, we hope that they get inspired to accomplish their goals as well. More details to be determined.
