President of ALPFA Boston Chapter
Earlier this month, I was asked to be a speaker addressing an audience primarily from IT (Information Technology) on "How to Manage your Boss" or what I'd like to refer to as How to manage your career. I had an opportunity to share my experiences on moving up the career ladder and providing tips on how to network within your company. It was a great experience for me personally, but I share this with you, as it also made me think of all the things we encounter daily. How are you sharing your experiences? How are you helping you peers or a colleague? I believe it is our job to help strengthen and foster a more welcoming and nurturing environment, one in which we can all learn from each other. As we celebrate Women's History Month, let's focus on developing and 'pulling up' those around us.
This month, ALPFA is kicking off 2017 in a huge way, a week-long celebration with Keynote Speaker Dr. Antonia Novello, 14th Surgeon General, the first women and first Latina to hold this position. We have an exciting week of content-filled, thought-provoking and call to action events hosted at Simmons College, Salvatore's in Lawrence, MASSDot and Eastern Bank. This was a collaboration with Salem State University, Lisa McBride, VP of Diversity and Inclusion. Conversation run from a variety of topics such as: healthcare disparities, fundraising event for a Latino student to attend Salem State University, Latino pipeline into STEM+M fields and a Women's Breakfast on leadership to end the week. I invite you to join us at one or all of the events during the week -- you won't want to miss it.
We invite you to also join our lead media partner El Mundo at their Latino Career Expo on Thursday March 30th. There are many partners who are looking to hire people like you, if you're looking to transition, then this is the event to attend.
Thank you for being a part of ALPFA.
